Common oven faults. See where we start.
One symptom can have several causes. The engineer tests before naming a part, so you only pay for what the oven needs.
- 1
Not heating
Usual suspects
A failed element, thermostat or temperature sensor, a burnt connection, or a timer set to an automatic programme.
While you wait
Check the clock isn’t set to auto or locked. Then switch off at the isolator and let it cool.
- 2
Fan not working
Usual suspects
A worn fan motor, a failed fan element, or a blade fouled by debris or a loose back panel.
While you wait
Note whether the fan is noisy, silent or turning without heat. That tells the engineer where to start.
- 3
Door or seal
Usual suspects
Worn hinges, a perished door seal, a loose inner glass panel or a catch that has slipped out of line.
While you wait
Don’t use an oven with cracked glass. Keep broken pieces out of the cavity and switch off.
- 4
Tripping the power
Usual suspects
An element shorting to earth, moisture in a connection or damaged wiring at the back of the oven.
While you wait
Leave the oven switched off at the isolator and use the rest of the kitchen as normal.
- 5
Cooking unevenly
Usual suspects
One element out of two, a fan element failing, a thermostat reading low or a door seal letting heat escape.
While you wait
Note which shelf or side burns and which stays pale. It points straight at the faulty part.

Oven repairs across Sheffield
Built-in single and double ovens, fan ovens and multifunction ovens are diagnosed at home across Sheffield and the surrounding suburbs. An oven that won’t heat, heats unevenly, has a silent fan or a door that won’t close usually comes down to an element, fan motor, thermostat, sensor or hinge.
An oven that trips the supply usually points to a failing element or damaged wiring. Stop using it, leave it switched off at the isolator and note when the trip happens: as it heats, on one function or at random. That detail narrows the diagnosis considerably.
Uneven cooking often comes from a failed fan element or a tired thermostat rather than the recipe. If one shelf browns while another stays pale, or the top oven of a double works while the main oven doesn’t, mention it when booking.
Built-in ovens are tested in their housing where possible and removed and refitted when the repair needs it. That work is part of the fixed labour quote for a built-in oven. Elements, fans, thermostats and door parts are priced separately and fitted only after you approve them.
Neff, Bosch, Siemens, AEG and Zanussi built-in ovens each have their own common faults, so give the brand and model number from the label round the door frame. Freestanding cookers and range cookers have their own cooker repair page.
Where the cavity is corroded or parts would approach the cost of a new built-in oven, replacement is the honest recommendation. The engineer sets out both figures before you decide anything.

Oven repair in Sheffield: your questions
Anything else? Send the team a message.
How much does oven repair cost in Sheffield?
Your fixed labour quote is shown online before booking and covers the diagnosis and repair. Elements, fans and thermostats are priced separately, and any part is fitted only after you approve the cost.
Why does my oven trip the electrical supply?
An oven that trips the supply may have a failing element, damaged wiring or another electrical fault. Stop using it, leave it switched off and describe when the trip occurs so the team can confirm whether the repair is suitable.
Can you repair a built-in double oven?
Yes. Single and double built-in ovens are repaired in place where possible, and the engineer removes and refits the oven from its housing when a repair needs it. Choose built in when you get your quote; that work is included in the labour price.
Is my oven worth repairing or should I replace it?
If the oven is old, the cavity is damaged or parts would cost close to a new fan-assisted model, replacement is often the honest recommendation. For most faults on a reasonably recent oven, repair is the cheaper route.
